Frequently Asked Questions:
What Should I Bring? We serve Pedigree food or bring your own (bring only enough for stay in labeled Ziplock Storage Bags per meal). Bring your pet’s favorite toys (limit to two please) and treats or purchase some at our gift shop. Do not bring valuables as we will not be responsible for any lost belongings. What you do bring please label with permanent marker all belongings. Limit storage to 10lbs. that will fit inside of a milk crate. Bring an emergency number (family or friend) for our records. A copy of current vaccinations and a current Dog Licensee is also required. Back to TopWhen is Drop off and Pick up?Ideally we would like to drop off after 1pm and pickup before 1pm. The reason being we probably have booked someone else to come into that suite and if they drop off before you pick up we won't have anywhere to put someone. We do have some overflow areas but mainly these are for grooming dogs. So if you pick up after 1pm you will be charged for an extra day, unless a grooming or training has been scheduled, then the late fee is waived. Back to TopWho is Responsible for Lost Belongings?YOU ARE!!!! Your best bet is to bring disposable toys and bedding. We will do our best keep your pets stuff together. Pets sometimes like to share toys with their neighbors through the fencing or take them out on Playtime or they get lost in the shuffle of changing suites. Think about it on a holiday we have over 100 dogs plus their food meds and belongings. We could be trying to keep track of over 500 articles! So permanently label anything you want back because if we can't find it when you leave, it will probably end up in the lost and found. Back to TopWhat activities should I try?Your pet can enjoy a variety of activities from a full scale play with other pets, a brisk hike through the woods, a belly rub on playtime, or even a soothing massage. It depends on your dogs activity level, social skills, and how much your pet has saved for their vacation activities. Back to TopWhy is my dog _____ when we pick him up?Tired - The dogs get a ton of exercise and excitement running up and down their runs with the other dogs next to them or when someone new comes in or leaves. They get a playtime a day where it is just their time for attention and activity. They can hang out all day with their Plays Pals if you sign up for it. We can restrict activity say for a heeling leg injury, as well. Smelly - Even at the cleanest kennel or vet dogs sometimes step in their stools and urine when excited. Some of the best kennel sanitizing products aren't the best smelling. These odors can get trapped in your pets' feet, legs and tail. So be advised all dogs leaving the kennel should be bathed by us or you, that's up to you. Thirsty All pets have constant access to fresh water. It is not unusual for your dog to be thirsty when he gets home, many dogs get overly excited when their owners pick them up. Loose bowels The change in environment and being away from the family can sometimes put a little stress on a dog. Stress and change in diet can cause a dog to have loose stools. In most cases this will clear up in a day or two. If at any time we become concerned, we will contact you, your emergency contact and/or a vet to be sure that the proper precautions are taken. If you know that your has a sensitive stomach, we would recommend bringing your own food. If you have any concerns after you have picked up your dog from Animal Resorts, we encourage you to call us immediately so that we can answer any questions that you may have. Please check out the ABKA web site for a brouchure called Boarding Your Dog Back to TopWhat happens in case of emergency? When you drop your pet off we will get any pertinent info on the care of your pet, your vets name and number, a respected friend or family member's phone number, and hopefully a number where you can be reached. If time permits we will try to contact you, your emergency contact, and your vet to notify and await instruction. If we could not reach any of the above we would take your pet most likely to Glen Moore or Downingtown Vet as they are the 2 closest vets and follow their instruction until we heard from you. Sometimes we may try to contact you while on vacation if we notice something unusual. Something that wasn't in your pet's medical information like a zist or broken tooth. So try to fill out the paperwork completely so we don't interrupt your vacation to ask you something. Back to TopWhy does my dog not have the the bordetella vaccine even though I take him regularly for his shots ?The Bordatella vaccine is for canine cough and is not required by most vets unless your pet participates in social settings with other dogs. It is like the lyme vaccine in that you need to request it most of the time if you want it. It is always a good idea to vaccinate your pet a couple of weeks prior to boarding, in case of reaction, as you know your pet best and will probably notice that your pet is not her self and may be coming down with something. Canine cough is usually like a chest cold with a sore throat that your child would get from school. Its usually bad for a few days and gone in a couple of weeks with proper rest, relaxation, and maybe antibiotics. Its contagious and changes like the flu so the vaccines are not full proof but do help in keeping the number of cases down. Some vets recommend vaccinating every 6 months, others not at all for elder dogs with prior respiratory conditions. Please check out the ABKA's brochure "Canine Cough" Back to TopMy dog cannot receive the DHLPP vaccine, can he still board? Occasionally we encounter dogs who do not receive annual DHLPP Boosters due to age or an illness. You may board your dog only if you provide us with a signed letter from your vet stating that your dog does not receive the vaccine and why. A dog license keeps your dog registered with the county and helps to be sure your dog will be returned if lost. You must renew your dog's license annually unless you have a lifetime license. Be sure not to confuse the Dog License with the Rabies License, as they are not the same thing. Dog Licenses are issued through the treasurer's office at the county and now here at Animal Resorts.
